Blue Star Brigade Marching Band

About:

The Blue Star Brigade is the marching band portion of the Hardee Senior High School Band program. They perform annually at all varsity football games, two parades, and two or more Marching Band Festival contests. In 2019, the band competed at competitions at Lakewood Ranch High School on October 19, Marching MPA at Manatee High School on October 26, and Palmetto Ridge High School on November 2.

In 2020 we're playing some music from the time that these teenage performers were babies! Popular songs from 2003-2009. Students can check out the links below for recordings and PDF sheet music of some of our new music this year.

2020 Blue Star Brigade Marching Band

First of all: everything is subject to change as football schedules or guidelines change.

But this is the plan!

***All practices and performances are required!*** Please schedule appointments, shopping, etc. on Mondays and Wednesdays so the entire team does not suffer from you being absent!

Practices:

  1. After school 4:00 - 5:45 Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Thursday, 8/20.

  2. Drum Line and Color Guard will have additional practice times, to be announced.

  3. Mr. Thompson may call additional practices on Friday afternoons when there is no performance. Advance notice will be given as soon as possible.

Performances:

  1. All home football games (schedule to-be-announced, typically on Friday evenings 6:15pm - 10:30pm)

  2. Away football games? Possibly (schedule to-be-announced, typically Friday evenings 5:00pm - 11:30pm, depending on location of game)

  3. Homecoming and Christmas parades: October 2 after early release and December 5 evening.

  4. We are working on securing some community performances on Saturdays, to be announced.

Band Fee: This year it’s only $30, to cover the cost of our band t-shirt, dry-cleaning the uniforms, and some small supplies for the band class and performances. There are two required purchases.

Required Purchases:

  1. Dinkles Glide marching shoes, black; approx. $35 including shipping. If you still have your shoes from a previous year, you do not need to purchase a new pair. The link below is the lowest price with shipping that I can find: Dinkles Glide marching shoes

  2. Water jug or water bottle. I recommend at least a ½-gallon jug, like this one: Coleman Half Gallon Water Jug

Required Equipment:

  1. Instrument. The school has certain instruments available for use, if you don’t own one. Mr. Thompson can also help you rent one from Carlton Music, if necessary.

  2. Supplies for your instrument. Students should have the things they need to make their instrument work! Valve oil (or slide lubricant) for brass and reeds for woodwinds are the biggest ones! Percussion students should have your own drum sticks and soft mallets. Here are some affordable mallets: Yarn Mallets, and some drum sticks: Snare Sticks

Hopefully you’re already on the band’s Remind list. If not, please text @hshsband16 to 81010 to sign up.
